Russian Geographic Society restaurant

Then the Russian Geographic Society restaurant (the Russian abbreviation is ‘RGO’) is for you. Recently opened in the centre of Moscow - Novaya Ploshchad, 10 – this place really looks like a mansion interior of a 19^th century traveler as the Russian Geographic Society foundation dates back to that time. Huge model sailboats, wall-size geographic maps, lots of natural wood furniture and finishing, old compasses, sandglasses and globes – all attracts attention and raises interest for travel and exploration.

     The RGO used to be a members-only restaurant catering governmental officials and other VIP-guests. Now it has been opened for public at large. The cuisine is set up by a French chef. No wonder, French dishes are a big part of the menu. But it would not be the Russian Geographic Society, if it did not take an interest in other corners of the planet offering the guests the versatility of the East and West cuisines (that refers to the impressive world geography wine list, too). Recommended are a beetroot and goat cheese salad with pine nuts, lamb shank served with celery and duck legs with simmered pear and chestnut puree. Asian cuisine lovers can enjoy dolma (stuffed grape leaves), manty (oriental lamb dumplings) or samsa (pastries) with lamb. The amazing in-house produced desserts are sure to please – Italian tiramisu simply melts in your mouth while fondant will fill you with enjoyment from its chocolate lava.

    The RGO is good for catering for up to 50 guests. The VIP hall fits 12 persons. From 10 am the restaurant offers most delicious breakfasts which include porridges, fried eggs with toppings, sandwiches, cheese fritters and home-style pancakes. Business lunches are surely available from 12 am to 4 pm. For a birthday celebration there’s a 10% discount.
